Someone once asked me, “Do you ever wear the same thing twice?” I wish I would have responded in a kinder way than how I actually did. Instead, I made a funny face at them, of course, I wear the same things over and over! I didn’t realize that people don’t think to style their outfits or pieces in different ways. In case you didn’t know, you don’t have to wear the entire outfit that is styled on the mannequin in your favorite store. Here are my secrets:
- Determine a color pallet – We all have a certain color we gravitate to. After you figure that out, you will know what your color pallet. Personally, I gravitate to neutral colors. In my wardrobe, I have a lot of black, grey, and white with a few dashes of navy blue, mixed in are a few colorful pieces.
- Know your personal style – A few years ago I would have told you my style is trendy. After I realized where I shop the majority of the time, I noticed was wrong and that my style is actually classic. My favorite stores are (Banana Republic, Gap, J-Crew, and Loft). I do have a lot of trendy items but not too much because it is just not my style.
- Invest in really good basics – To make a great outfit you need to have really good basics. If you have a basic white shirt, you can wear that same white shirt with a great pair of jeans and change the exciting elements of our outfit.
- Accessorize – Remember that simple outfit, a white shirt, and jeans? You can make so many outfits out of that basic look. You can wear a super cool bomber jacket, or a blazer, or even just a scarf. With the same basic outfit, you created 3 different looks. You can do the same thing with your shoes too. So if you wear that bomber jacket with heels, boots or sneakers, your outfit will look different each time.
