Today’s look screams summer! It actually reminds me of my childhood. A tank top, shorts, and sneakers were my summer uniform. Back in the good old days, I spent my summers riding bikes, playing tag, and making up obstacle courses. What were some of your best summer memories?

Minimalism and Fashion

IMG_2196

Last year I watched a documentary about minimalism. Ever since I’ve been fascinated with the topic. Something about living a more simpler life sounds so amazing. Imagine you won’t have to spend the entire day cleaning and wake up to an immaculate home. Sounds like a dream come true to me.

Those of you who love fashion and styling just like me, here are a few ways I like to keep my closet as minimal as I possibly can.

  1. Just buy what you need. Having a closet full of 8 v-neck black shirts is unnecessary. If you prefer a black v-neck, get a really good one that will last you through the season.
  2. Know your style. I talk a lot about personal style here, but knowing your personal style will take you a long way when building a wardrobe. For example, I prefer a more basic color palette, so when I come across that neon green cardigan, I know it won’t work in my closet and therefore I need not buy it. No matter how cute it may be.
  3. Stick to basics. Basics will bring you a long way. Now, if you have to have that neon green cardigan, you could buy it because your basics will make a great backdrop to this cardigan.
  4. Don’t keep up with the Joneses. This is what minimalism is all about. Not being sucked into consumerism. You can have everything you need to style an outfit but not go overboard. You don’t need those Gucci slides in the summer just because everyone has them, the black sandals you already have are just as cute.
  5. Discard often. I like to get rid of things very often, simply because I shop a lot. It’s the one in one out principle of minimalism.

Overall, if you want to live a minimalist lifestyle you can, but you may just put your joy into your closet. Which is fine because you can do minimalism your way.

How to Style Basics

One of my favorite ways to put together an outfit is to pair basics and add a fun piece to bring it all home. In the styling world, it is called the third piece, or the finishing piece. Every outfit needs something to top it off, today I’m sharing five ways add the finishing touches on an outfit.

  1. Jacket or Vest – As shown here, I am wearing a vest over a pair of skinny jeans and a plain tee shirt. I also, like to do the same look with a jacket, but in the summer jackets are of course a bit to warm.
  2. Statement Jewelry – you can wear a big bold necklace, fun earrings, or a wrist full of bracelets. Whatever you decided to make sure you just pick one statement and let that be the focus.
  3. Shoes – I love making my shoes the main even in my outfit. Honestly, the shoes make the look so why not wear a pair of fun shoes. Imagine wearing an all-black outfit and metallic shoes, I’ve been loving that look this season.
  4. Bag – bold bags are great to make an outfit look very well styled, plus if you are anything like me, you like to have a lot more accessories and more classic pieces. An outfit will always pop when you accessories are fun.
  5. Let the basics be the look- wearing a monochromatic look is a statement in itself. My favorite is wearing all black or all white. I think it is such a chic look and that says a lot.

Midi Skirts and Fashion Risk

I used to think they were not flattering on me because of where they hit on my leg. This summer, I’ve been loving the length. I feel like I’ve been taking more risk when it comes to fit. I am not big into heels and I think the most flattering way to wear a midi length is with heels (like shown above). Who cares- I like the length even if it makes me look shorter, it’s still fun.  Everything doesn’t have to highlight my best features, but it does have to be fun. I have more of a classic style and that can get boring really fast. What fashion risk have you been taking lately?

Recently, I found these amazing pants at Express. Lately,  I feel i’ve been finding some great items there.

Today, I wanted to talk to you all about how I like to shop to find the best deals. I have three super easy tips that can help you find really great things in store. Let’s hop into my tips.

  1. Do a quick walk through the entire store, and always check out the sale rack. Sometimes you can find some of the best items on the sale rack.
  2. Have an idea of what you are looking for. Lately, I’ve been in the need of pants that I could wear to work, so I focused more on that area of the store.
  3. Use the dressing room. I’ve noticed that sometimes when things are on an amazing sale they may be final sale. Before you buy make sure you try.

Never Repeat an Outfit

Someone once asked me, “Do you ever wear the same thing twice?” I wish I would have responded in a kinder way than how I actually did. Instead, I made a funny face at them, of course, I wear the same things over and over! I didn’t realize that people don’t think to style their outfits or pieces in different ways. In case you didn’t know, you don’t have to wear the entire outfit that is styled on the mannequin in your favorite store. Here are my secrets:

  1. Determine a color pallet – We all have a certain color we gravitate to. After you figure that out, you will know what your color pallet. Personally, I gravitate to neutral colors. In my wardrobe, I have a lot of black, grey, and white with a few dashes of navy blue, mixed in are a few colorful pieces.
  2. Know your personal style – A few years ago I would have told you my style is trendy. After I realized where I shop the majority of the time, I noticed was wrong and that my style is actually classic. My favorite stores are (Banana Republic, Gap, J-Crew, and Loft). I do have a lot of trendy items but not too much because it is just not my style.
  3. Invest in really good basics – To make a great outfit you need to have really good basics. If you have a basic white shirt, you can wear that same white shirt with a great pair of jeans and change the exciting elements of our outfit.
  4. Accessorize – Remember that simple outfit, a white shirt, and jeans? You can make so many outfits out of that basic look. You can wear a super cool bomber jacket, or a blazer, or even just a scarf. With the same basic outfit, you created 3 different looks. You can do the same thing with your shoes too. So if you wear that bomber jacket with heels, boots or sneakers, your outfit will look different each time.

Spring Staples: The Striped Shirt

A spring staple that never goes out of style (in my opinion) is a striped shirt. They are so versatile and classic, making any outfit have a bit of flair and class. Personally, I prefer to do a black and white stripe, but if your closet is more blue, a navy stripe may be better suited for your style.

I recently purchased this striped shirt and wanted to show you a basic way to wear this look.

Outerwear I’m Loving

Outerwear I'm Loving

This was slightly intentional and slightly not intentional. In my last Valentine’s Day post, I told you have I haven’t been into Valentine’s Day until recently. Hence this post, I have been looking for some coats and everything I have been loving is pink or red. Everything I found was from the Chicwish website and I have to tell you they have some really cute items. I would have to warn you it is not as inexpensive as I normally recommend. Most of the items are priced around $50 – still not the most expensive. Especially for coats. If they have an end of season sale soon, I plan to do a more in depth wish list on all coats I am loving.

I started to pick a favorite for you but honestly I couldn’t come up with a favorite. I think if I decided to pace myself and buy one item at a time I would start with the pink cardigan coat.  I have been loving the gray one (which I think I still plan on purchasing) and when I saw the pink one I was so excited.

Hi Friends,

I am writing this message from sunny California. Frank and I came out here to attend some All Star Weekend activities. Prior to coming, of course, we had to pack, which is my favorite part of traveling. I know that is weird. I think most people are not a fan of packing, but I love it.

I decided to do a flat lay of one of the outfits I plan on wearing while I am there. Typically, when I pack, I like to take pictures of my outfits. It helps me to keep things organized. I have those pictures on my phone, but I look a mess in them and decided to avoid embarrassment and not post them 🙂

Be sure to keep a look out on how I style the outfits from my tip.

I think I have every item in leopard form (this is not entirely true. I don’t have a leopard purse!). It’s hard because it matches everything and adds a lot of fun to any outfit. So why not? I like to walk on the wild side (pun intended … lol).
