I consider myself to be a fitness enthusiast. Lately, I have been going to the gym and working out more consistently that I have in a couple of years. I’ve made some small changes that have made such a big difference in working out regularly.

  1. Go to a gym near you. Weather you go to a gym that is close to your job or right up the street from your house you will be more motivated to go when you see in the gym on a regular basis. In the past, I was a member of a gym that was about 20 minutes from my house and was not on my typical route home. I would find myself making up every excuse as to why I can’t make the gym that day.
  2. Always keep workout clothes in your car. There has been many times when I was out running errands and had a little time where I could run and have a quick workout.
  3. Create a schedule. Making a schedule is a great way I hold myself accountable. For example I never have plans on Wednesdays, and I know not to make plans because I go to the gym right after work.
  4. Walk. If you feel like you don’t have time take a walk.
  5. Love you workout clothes. Every so often I like to update my workout clothes if you have great workout clothes and don’t use them, they will be wasted.

Fitness Check-in

Hello Friends,

Just like every other person on earth, I decided to get fit for one of my New Year Resolutions. Lately, I have been having such a great time working out. I am one of those people who enjoy working out, the endorphins you feel after that last weight and the since of accomplishment you get when you run for 30 minutes non-stop. It is the best!!!

Recently, I have changed my gym routine, for the last couple of weeks I have been solely been doing weights. Honestly, because my hair was straight and I refused to perspire with the hopes of making my blow out last longer, but I will save that for another post. Last week I started to incorporate cardio back into my routine (my favorite).  IMG_9429IMG_9462IMG_9468IMG_9489IMG_9501

Here is what I eat…

Hey Friends,

Since I posted my fitness routine… I have received a few inquiries about my diet. I promise it is the simplest diet ever, but there are a few components to it. First, I have been gluten free for about four years. I have a stomach condition called Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), per doctor’s orders I shouldn’t eat gluten or consume dairy, along the years I learned I have a hard time processing meat as well. This is what has shaped my diet today.

In a nutshell, I eat vegetables, chicken and turkey. I try really hard to stay away from processed food, but on occasion I do eat brown rice pasta, or gluten free bread… Udis, is my favorite. Gluten free food has come a long way, when I first transitioned to a gluten free diet, I didn’t eat any of the specialized foods, they were so gross. Now they are pretty good, I can even get my husband to have some too. Unfortunately, they tend to be high in sugar and other not so great things to make it taste good, which is why I eat them only on occasion.

Here is my typical day of eating for me.

Breakfast: Coffee… I like to use a lot of cream in my coffee so it increased the calories a lot and it fills me.

Morning Snack: Fruit, turkey bacon, turkey sausage, serving size oatmeal.

Lunch: Salad, soup, leftovers typically.

Afternoon Snack: Fruit, tea (with cream), protein shake, Gluten free cookies, or desert of some kind.

Dinner: Anything goes!

Evening Snack: Usually a popsicle, tea (no cream), fruit, sometimes a tiny bit of ice cream.

Things to note: I do consume dairy and gluten on very small scales. I eat fried foods which contain gluten, and I do eat ice cream. The coffee creamer I use is nondairy and I eat my ice cream out of a small Dixie cup. I think it is important to say I do not have Celiac’s Disease, for those of you who do, please do not consume gluten. Remember you should always consult a doctor when making changes to your diet or fitness routine.

By the way… I HATE eggs and ketchup!

Gym Time

Ever since I could renumber I have always had a love for being healthy and taking care of myself. Over the course of the years I have started and stopped so many work out regiments, that never seemed to stick. Until now, the longest I have worked out on a consistent basis was four or five months. Back in January Frank and I decided to get a gym membership to help get in shape for the wedding. I thought to myself it is cheap enough that if I don’t go on a regular basis it wouldn’t hurt so bad, but it turns out I love the gym. It is a great stress reliever, amazing for your health, and I love workout clothes. Lately, I have been going anywhere between 3 and 5 times a week.

Normally, I am a little high strung and I find it difficult to relax. I have no idea why and I think I have been like this my entire life. When I feel like I have a lot going on, which is usually always, I try to find things that calm me down. Working out dosen’t exactly calm me down but, it does help me to relive stress. After my session, I’m usually clam and mellowed. It could be because I am tired, but that is neither here nor there.

Having a healthy lifestyle is extremely important to me. I want to age gracefully in a healthy way. To be honest, I love love love french fries and I could eat them every day. Not the most healthy thing to do, oh and ice cream, pizza, did I say french fries? Nonetheless, working out is so good for us humans. It keeps our heart healthy, keeps our blood circulating and other great things that someone with an MD could tell you.

Is it just me, but when you get home from a long day the first thing you do is find a comfy pair of yoga pants? I do! I whenever I am out at various clothing stores I always make a pass through the workout section to see if i can find any workout clothes on sale. Usually, I find really cute things for less than $10. Which is amazing!
