Happy Sunday Friends…

I am so sorry today’s post is late. Last night my husband threw me a surprise party and I had so much fun, so I wasn’t prepared for today’s post. That’s life for you.

I found this image on Pinterest and thought! Yes that is it! A few times this week I had to share something similar to this with a some people. So now it’s your turn. Really, I just want to share and be light to you all letting you know, if you are going through something that is less than ideal, and trying to make sense out of all the clamantly. Remember, everything happens for a reason and God has put you in a certain place for a certain reason. Just like this quote says, He could be trying to change your heart… just let Him. You will never win a fight with God, so try to understand what He is trying to teach you. I promise that is the easiest way out, just learn the lesson that is being given.

I hope you were encouraged.

Fitness Routine

Fitness is actually a big part of my life. In high school I played a lot of sports. I started running track in the 6th grade all the way to my senior year in high school. I also played Volleyball in a recreational league when I was in the 11th grade. Now that I am way past my high school years, I like to hit the gym. Which is what I am sharing with you all now. First let me say, I am not a doctor, physical therapist, or have any formal training in fitness, I just do what works for me.

I go to the gym about five or six times a week (I try at least).
In addition, to going to the gym on a regular basis, we have to eat well. Overall, I have a healthy diet. For the most part I eat clean, and avoid processed foods. Like any other person, I enjoy my sweet treats and I don’t ever plan to cut them out in the foreseeable future. Although, I am getting older (I will be 30 at the end of the year!) I have noticed my metabolism has started to slow down. I also have been eating gluten free for about four years now, which helps with my carb intake. I try to stay away from the gluten free alternatives available, if it is not gluten free naturally it is my goal not to eat it. For example, gluten free bread, pasta, cookies and cakes. Keeping this honest, I do eat gluten free items, I try to keep it to a minimum, they tend to be packed with sugar and junk to make it taste good. Usually, they succeed.

Before, I have you reading for days I am going to cut this short and revisit a post on my diet at a later date. It is very interesting and complicated all at the same time. Stay tuned.

Light Sweater Days

img_4364_fotorimg_4344_fotorimg_4343_fotor_fotorimg_4339_fotor

This weekend, I was perusing the mall with a friend and came across this perfect sweater in Burlington’s. I haven’t been there in years, it takes some digging but, sometimes you can find really great staples for your wardrobe. Like this sweater, which is  amazing for this time of year. It is not too heavy, but warm enough to keep you cozy on a chilly day. This sweater reminds me of something Audrey Hepburn would have worn. I love a classic piece! I choose not to wear a necklace because I wanted the sweater to be the focal point. I love the way it is made with the detail of the sleeve and the mock turtle neck. Amazing!

Did you all have a great weekend? Hopefully you got to do something that made you happy!!

A Walk in the Park

Hi Friends,

I hope you all had a good weekend!!! This weekend I was slightly busy, but nothing to overwhelming. My mom came into town for the weekend and we spent all day Saturday hanging with my  grandmother, aunt, and younger cousins. When we all get together we have such a good time. We visited my Grandfather, who is an absolute hoot. It was just a good time.

With the weather cooling off a bit, it has been the perfect weather to add a jacket to any outfit. There is something about wearing jackets that makes me feel like my outfit is complete. Jackets are my favorite article of clothing (apart from jewelry). This outfit is something that can be worn for any casual day, running errands, or even just relaxing at home. I have had this romper for about a year and I have worn it so many times. It’s cute and comfy… the perfect weekend outfit.

It’s Wedding Season

Within the last two years, I have attended the most weddings in my life. I went to four last year including my own, and three this year. I have to say, weddings may be my favorite type of party. I really enjoy prepping for events and occasions. To have so many this summers I was in heaven! Now I consider myself to be an expert, so let’s talk about Wedding Etiquette today!

Your Date

Let me put this out there first. You do not have to match each other, but you should go together. Just because you have on pink, does not mean your date must to wear pink. Here is a photo of me and my husband, wearing outfits that goes together but doesn’t necessarily match each other. Ladies, if you are the type who will never wear the same outfit more than once (thank you facebook) there is always the Rent the Runway option. I love Rent the Runway, they have so many designer outfits that work well for so many occasions! Guys don’t you worry, you can rent a suit or tux from The Black Tux and look equally as stylish as your date. I showed my husband the easy to use website and he definitely thought it is the way to go for our next special occasion. Oh and by the way, it is affordable too!

Etiquette

One thing I am a stickler on, is etiquette, and not only with weddings but throughout life. There are just somethings we should not do. We all know we shouldn’t wear white or anything that can appear to be white at a wedding. Err on the side of caution, if you have to think about it, others will too. Also, make sure you look put together, no wrinkles, or stains. Please wear appropriate attire too, my rule of thumb is “would I wear this to church?” I like to wear more classy items to a wedding otherwise you can date yourself.  When attending any event, dress nice, it shows you have respect for the event and those throwing it. Lastly, be sure to dress correctly for the occasion.

Typically if there is nothing indicating the formality of the wedding on the invitation, look at the venue and the time of the wedding. Typically, if the wedding is in the morning will be more casual, the evening tends to be more formal. For example if the wedding is being held in a castle, I recommend and evening gown or a really nice cocktail dress and a tux for the guys.

I hope this helps you all get through the rest of wedding season

Strawberry Lemonade Recipe

I am going to give you all my very first recipe post. Are you ready it’s really complicated! Just kidding. Really, I am taking a simple lemonade mixture and adding strawberries. Honestly, with it being so hot, I would feel like a complete failure if I didn’t share with you all what I have been making to quench my thirst.
Here is what you will need:
1 bottle of berry flavored sparkling water
1/2 cup of frozen strawberries (chopped or whole)
4 scoops of lemonade mix
Water
2 quart pitcher

Directions:
Add the entire bottle of sparkling water. Once the fizzing stops add the powdered lemonade mix. When the lemonade mixture is dissolved, add in the strawberries. Fill the rest of the pitcher with water.

I actually use the frozen strawberries for two batches of lemonade. We go through one picture about every two days.
So, how did I do? Are you interested in more recipes on here. I have so many, I cook much more than I lead on 😃

Couples Retreat

As you all know last week I was in Newport News, Va with my church on a couples retreat. The retreat was Thursday through Saturday, just in time for everyone to make it to church on Sunday. It just so happened to be comunion so we were able to sleep in (Communion service is at night). I am currently working on an in depth story on my faith and the journey it took to get to where I am now. It is very interesting/ entertaining.

Frank and I left at about 8am on Thursday morning. I suggested that we get down there as soon as possible, traffic is always unpredictable and it was a 3 hour drive. I actually grew up in that area, and I knew there were some outlets close by. We arrived at the outlets around 1pm and gave us some time to do a little shopping. After shopping we checked into the hotel and the festivities began.

Night One:

We were able to experience the amazing voice of Kelly Price concert, followed by music and dancing in what we called “the love lounge.” Growing up my favorite type of music was R&B, 90s R&B holds a special place in my heart. If you can’t tell getting to see Kelly Price perform was amazing.

Day One:

First thing in the morning, the coordinators included a time for everyone to walk around “love pond” or get in a quick workout. We started the morning in prayer, followed by breakfast. After breakfast which was about 2 hours, we had praise in worship before our first speaker. The first speaker, Bishop Kim Walter Brown was amazing. So much so, Frank and I purchased his book and got it signed. Bishop Brown, spoke about how our up bring plays a major role in the way we operate. It was very eye opening. Later that evening, we had dinner at a Brizillian restaurant that brought around endless meats, Frank loved it.

Day Two:

The morning was the same as day one, Frank and I had an amazing run this morning- I get excited for great workouts. The speaker this day was Mark Gungor, and he was so funny, we couldn’t stop laughing. I really enjoyed how he put the way men and women think into perspective. We purchased these materials as well. After this speaker it was time for lunch then we had to get back on the road to head back to Maryland.

Overall Frank and I loved this retreat. We have never done anything quite like this and we had an amazing time. We even bought our tickets for next year, the church gives a great discount when you register at the retreat. I am so excited for next year!

Seek Him Early

Hi Friends,

Recently, I had been on the hunt for a new devotional. I am always on the hunt for something it seems (this is typical for me!). I came across this blog post from Sequins and Things (one of my favorite blogs) and thought I would check it out. I did and loved it.

When I found this book  my Paul David Tripp in Barnes and Noble, I ended up spending a bit of time in the book store reading this book. I love how easy it is to read and understand. It also gives you a book or chapter to think about throughout the day. Proverbs 8:17 says “I love love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me” -NKJVsignature2

Wifey

I thought this outfit would be very fitting to post today! Tomorrow, Frank and I will be attending a couple’s retreat with our church. This is our first retreat we have ever attended. I hope it will be fun! I will have to tell you all about it when I get back. I hope you all enjoy this post… I am off to pack now 🙂
