Breaking Fashion Rules

Today I am throwing fashion rules out the window! Some fashion rules are old, outdated and, doesn’t make sense, but for some reason I am compelled to follow them. We all know the saying don’t wear white after Labor Day, we shouldn’t mix prints, and be sure to take one accessory off before you leave the house. Today, I am saying so what to the rules.

Recently, I heard about a challenge call Try-day Friday, created by Dia&Co., where Friday’s they wear something to the office they typically wouldn’t wear. The idea is to face your fashion fears. I love this concept because we can all use a little push every now and then.

If I am honest, ignoring the rules did make me uncomfortable, when I wore these jeans, I kept thinking everyone is looking at me because I am wearing white after Labor Day? Once I realize I’m doubting my outfit choice, I tell myself, “it is what it is,” and I hold my head high and let it go. I must have liked the outfit at some point and fashion is not that deep to care about what other people think about my outfit.

I wanted to wear these pants (in the fall) because I found them at the end of the season and I just loved them. Apparently, they are mom jeans, who would have thunk mom jeans are in style lol. They are really comfortable, because they have the perfect amount of room and they are high waisted, which are my favorite.

Hi Friends,

How was your Independence Day? I had such a good time! I went over a friends house and we spent the entire evening eating and playing Monopoly! It was a perfect time. At the end of the night there were fireworks… fancy that on Independence Day! Did you do anything fun over the holiday?

About this outfit: lately, I have been traveling up and down 95 more often then usual, I will be traveling this weekend and again at the end of the month. Needless to say I have been living in sweats (shocker I know). I just have to be comfortable when traveling. I like this outfit because it is easy to wear and comfortable. Instead of looking like a bag lady when traveling I like to find a cuter alternative. You  never know you may want to run into that outlet mall as you are driving to you location. I also like to take my shoes off in the car, so wearing these slides I can slip them on and off quickly.

Happy Tuesday!

A major trend right now is bold sleeves, everywhere you look there is a large puff sleeve, or flutter sleeve, or even a large ruffle on the shoulder. Oh wait, even off the shoulder shirts (I forgot about that).  Nonetheless, sleeves are in. Okay, I am being honest, I am not super into the trend 100%.  I like it but not to sure how it fits with my style. I guess I am just different.

Here is a tip- If you are not sure about a trend, try it in a modest way. That is what I did here. The sleeves are not crazy overwhelming but they are still on trend. This will actually be super cute with a pair of shorts as well.

Natural Hair Products

Hi Friends, Happy Tuesday!

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been making a few stops into Ulta to replenish my stash of hair products. When they have a sale on my favorites I like to stock up. In this case there was a sale on Paul Mitchell so I bought a few bottles (I go through a lot of conditioner) and SheaMoisture was on sale as well, and I grabbed a few deep conditioners and oils.

Shampoo– I was in the need for a new shampoo and decided to grab the mate to the conditioner I have been using for a few months now. I will keep you all posted on how it works out with my hair.

Conditioner– I have been using this conditioner for a while now. I love it! It helps assist with detangling my hair which is crazy knotty when I wash it. I like to use it as a co-wash when I am in a rush as well.

Hydration Masque– Naturally I have very dry hair. I didn’t realize how much moisture I should be putting back in to my hair weekly. I actually used this today and it was AMAZING. Oddly enough, there is a patch in the front of my hair that is always straight. When I used this my entire head was curly. It was a curl I had never seen before and can’t wait to see how it will work over time.

Protein Masque–  Monthly, I like to add protein back in to my hair. Last month I finished a deep conditioner I have been using off and on for a couple of years, which was okay but nothing special.  I think it would work on another hair type, but not so much for me. To replace that conditioner, I am going to try this one next month.

Frizz Masque– Hello, I have frizzy hair. With that concern I wanted to try this masque too.

Baobab Oil– Usually, I just jojoba oil or something I randomly find in the beauty supply store. Being, this was on sale I wanted to try it because I was completely out of the random oil I had been using.

Shea Oil– Prior to taking an interest in my hair’s care, I used to use a really cheap shea butter GREASE (yes grease, remember that) and it made my hair very thick, plus my hair dresser (at that time) said shea butter was good for my hair. So, I wanted to try a healthier version.

Let me know if you want to see more about what I do for this hair 🙂

Hi Friends,

In the spring and summer my family visits the Baltimore Flea Market and Bazaar (mostly for the food) but we always have great time. One particular time we found a stand that sold these dashikis. All the women in my family purchased one. I had mine stored in my closet for quite sometime. After I purchased these boots, I thought they would go really well together. It was actually a very comfortable outfit. The boots added that touch of something special 🙂

Hi Friends,

So sorry for the lack of post last week, I was under the weather for majority of the week. Which is how this look came about. I spent much of the weekend of the couch in these sweats. My little brother actually gave me these as a Christmas Gift. I wanted to go down a size and was on the hunt to exchange them. Turns out they are discontinued so I decided to keep them and I am glad I did. They are so comfortable and warm.

A Pale Pink Blazer

Hi Friends,

Sorry there wasn’t a post yesterday, that was completely a mistake. That aside, I am here today with a new post 🙂  img_8748_fotorimg_8796_fotorimg_8805_fotorimg_8791_fotorimg_8800_fotorimg_8861_fotor

When I planned this outfit, I was going for a simple casual Valentine’s Day look. Once I saw the pictures I noticed that this would be a great outfit to wear to work, if you want to be festive on Valentine’s Day. Do you all do that? Sometimes it brings a little fun to what can be a monotonous work day. I am sure I’ve expressed how much I love leopard, it goes with everything and is hands down my favorite print.

These are my favorite jeans, and I found this blazer at TJ Maxx. This shirt was given to me by my little brother for Christmas, from The Limited which is no longer with us 🙁 I am sad about them going out of business, but glad I got this cute shirt at an amazing price!

Trying New Things

Happy Tuesday Friends,

Today’s outfit is a simple one. I love love love outfits that you can just throw on and still feel like you are in your pjs. Typically, I prefer a more structured looked and when I found these pants until I walked out the house for this shoot I was unsure about these pants. I decided to take a risk. Can you tell I am not much of a risk taker? When I decided to wear these pants I though to myself They are cute they look great with this shirt and decided to go with it.

I had to remind myself, it is just clothes and fashion is meant to be fun and creative so lets plan and have fun with it. img_8272_fotorimg_8235_fotorimg_8284_fotorimg_8240_fotorimg_8286_fotorimg_8261_fotorimg_8264_fotor

Tip: If you are wearing an oversized shirt and less form fitting bottoms tuck the top in slightly to create more shape to avoid looking like you are wearing a sack 🙂

Greetings! I have been under the weather for about a week now. I am so over it!!! I can admit I am dramatic when I am sick. I feel like I am not going to make it. Thankfully, I am on the other side of this cold and I sure it is not fatal, so life will be back to normal soon. If you remember a few months ago I wore this sweater in this post. This sweater is so warm and cozy. I love to wear it around the house, to work and on the weekends. I find blue to be a neutral color in my wardrobe, so this sweater goes with everything. I lucked up and found it at Burlington’s which means it was affordable! I have had these shoes for a few years now, here is a very similar pair. If you notice, I like to buy quality clothes that last though the seasons. I don’t tend to gravitate to trendy pieces, because I like to have my clothes for a few years. If you are looking for something similar I will try to link something close. Oh and these are my favorite Jeans again 🙂

Keeping Warm

img_7401_fotorimg_7309_fotorimg_7343_fotorimg_7346_fotorimg_7405_fotor

Goodness Guys, it has been so cold lately! I think the weather is going to be in the 60s for one day… then right back to the 30s. Needless to say I have been living in my puffer coats lately. I actually got this one for Christmas. I love the color and the length. Clearly, on this particular day it was cold and windy which is why my hair is all over the place.

I just bought these boots in a flash sale on Hautelook/Nordstrom Rack. I have been on the hunt for a pair of navy blue over the knee boots, I found a pair at DSW but they made my thighs look huge (I am dramatic but it was not flattering). I was nervous to buy these expecting the same result. To my surprise they worked. A trick I have learned over the years, if you art attempting to slim your leg line keep to a monochromatic color scheme on your bottom half. Being that I have on dark jeans and dark boots it worked. A plus for these shoes is how comfortable and they keep you warm!
